Bitcoin Milwaukee Seeks to Increase Online Currency’s Real-World Use

(Milwaukee Business Journal) Digital currency Bitcoin seems to grab more bad headlines than good, something a Milwaukee group wants to change.

Currently, the Milwaukee metro area shows as much or more Bitcoin activity than cities of similar size, at least according to cryptocurrency tracking site coinmap.org. Five bars, restaurants and companies are listed, at least one other startup is taking Bitcoin donations, and more venues are reportedly on the way, including a few big names.

Bitcoin Milwaukee holds well-attended weekly meetings and offers support to businesses considering accepting Bitcoin or users considering buying. Its founder, 31-year-old William Pangman, embraces the title of “Milwaukee’s Bitcoin evangelist.”
